Re: Maiden Edition Of Fellow Nurses Essay Competition Result Is Out

The maiden edition of the essay writing competition of Fellow Nurses Africa has finally come to an end.  The long awaited essay competition has finally come to an end with over  29 nurses as participants, which includes both nursing students currently undergoing their education in various schools,  and staff nurses.





Apart from the essay writing which carried 70% of the total score, other tasks were assigned to participants to put their professionalism, comportment, patience and rightful use of  social media platforms into test.

Judges were strategically selected from various walks of life to assess the activities of the contestants and above all, to do justice to the written essays.

Below are the names of the judges:

2.) Nurse Abiodun oyewole, Team lead, Nurses Got Talents

3.) Nurse Abiodun Oluwatobi, Founder, Nurses Jobs And opportunities

4.) Nurse Olubayo Gbemiga, MNCH Lead, Equitable Health Access Initiative, FCT.

5.) Nurse Oluwadamilare Akingbade, CEO, institute of Nursing research. (Representative of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria)

6.) Nurse Alo Oluwafemi, Clinical Nurse practitioner

7.)Mr Ologun Ayodeji, CEO: RANROY MEDIA NETWORK, former Bureau Chief, KAFTAN TV, former head of News and current Affairs, AIT Osun.
Winner, world Amateur poet of the year 2002

8.) Nurse. Ojolola Adeife Bukola, Team lead, Mobile Nurses

9.) Nurse. Ogunleye Ayodeji, Publicity Director/ Advert manager, Fellow Nurses Africa

10.) Nurse obembe oladapo, Online / social media manager, Fellow Nurses Africa.

11.) Mr Aladegbemi Charles, Managing Director, Fellow Nurses Africa.

12.) Nurse Faleti Daniel, Assistance Editor, Fellow Nurses Africa

13.) Nurse Oluwatosin K Odunayo, Team lead, Fellow Nurses Africa


The competition process lasted for a month,  from October 14 to November 14.


The essay writing had the highest mark, which was 70%, and each task is 10%. The results from each task,  including the essay writing were added together.

Below are the names of the winners and their results.
Akinwole Tomiwa – Overall best participant 78.1%

Olaleye Jemimah – First Runner up 70.5%

Damilola Bisayo – Second Runner Up 69.5%

Some of the contestants who spoke with fellow Nurses Africa correspondents affirmed that the process was amazing.
"It's the first time am witnessing such a beautiful thing in the profession. FNA you did a whole  lot. You have created a voice for Nurses that would be heard all around the globe. Thank you kindly.” these were the words of Inah Emmanuella, one of the contestants.



Another contestants, Tega Erokaire said “The idea behind this essay competition was a very great one. This is the type of stuffs we as nurses need presently because such educational stuffs increases the nurses self knowledge  each passing day. It also aids in meeting up with global medical standards. It was a great eye opening experience for me and everyone who did. To the FNA team, you all did a great job in organizing such a contest. All we can do is to commend your efforts. Also thanks for such great opportunity and we hope you reach out to other medical related groups especially nursing related to do same. Thank you very much.” 

The overall best contestant, Akinwole Tomiwa appreciated the management of Fellow Nurses Africa for their kind gestures and brilliancy in organizing such an amazing Contest. "Thanks to  Fellow Nurses Africa for taking the lead in bringing useful innovations and ideas into the Nursing profession", she said.


 Mr Oluwatosin Kehinde, the team lead of the organization while addressing our correspondent said, "the contest was aimed at gathering inputs from other Nurses from their wealth of ideas to actualizing the dream of catapulting Nursing to greatness.

 The essay contest also aims at changing the poor attitudes of Nurses to the use of social media. The population of the world today is over 8 billions out of which 5.5 billion has access to the social media, 
Twitter alone has more than 330 million monthly active users of 1.3 billion accounts.  Facebook has nothing less than  3.3 billion active users combined with others like WhatsApp, Instagram, LinkedIn and many more.
when Nurses use social media, there should be a form of professionalism, as a nurse you should brand yourself and make yourself a force to reckon with . I weep inside of me when I see Nurses communicate and relate on social media. Therefore, the tasks assigned to the contestants, i.e task 1 , 2 and 3 were deliberate", he said.


The managing director of the organization, Mr. Charles wealth promised that all the gray areas highlighted in all the essay shall bed to the appropriate quarters to ensure they are swiftly addressed.

This is the first time such an essay competition would be organized in the history of Nigerian Nursing professionala and we are glad it was a success.
